First week back!

So today happened to be the first week of school for 2010 and will be my last semester living in Wayne for college. Very sad to know I will be leaving soon. So with that in mind I had a teacher challenge me to continue my personal growth. . . I thought this would be the most excellent way to start considering I have thought about my blog spot all throughout my break. I had a couple of incidents happen where I seriously could have just beat the royal crap out of and then I thought of blogging it and everybody would know my frustrations. I kind of forgot to blog though, plus I didnt have a computer.
Since this is my first week back at school and I do have a computer I will take the challenge!
I have been very nervous about this class (Interviewing Skills). This class is more or less the deciding factor of whether or not I am able to focus on practicing skills for the future. I feel like it is a step into my career. I am expecting to challenge me a lot for my profession. BUT what if I fail? What if I cant make this work? I have found out why I want to become a counselor. What if I dont have the talent?
For instance, a guy can like basketball play decent but that doesn't mean he makes it all the way. What if I have the same problem?
Today I did my first interview. My heart could not stop racing. I was thinking back to all the things I have learned in Fundamentals, Introduction, and Personal Growth. All the key words I could have been using. I just hope it is better then expected. We taped ourselves while doing this. I havent watched it yet. . . im honestly scare to know how much work I will need to do. I mean I am so far into my degree I would hate if I was told I didnt do as while as the instructor thought I should have done. I guess the day of reckoning will be next week to find out.
So I am hoping this class of the semester can answer these questions. I have been nervous non stop about my future when I had made the decision to move back home. With a new reason to start a blog I am going to call my next one Interviewing Skills Reflections. So lets see how things go!

What have I done in terms of “personal growth” lately?

Today I think I have found out why I have wanted to become a counselor. Many people have been asking me why I have chosen counseling. I just thought it was because i wanted to help others. One of my professors had made had looked at me and asked why and I didn't have the answer. At that moment I had huge doubt that I was doing the wrong thing. I have been stressing about if this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. He also asked if I could go on day to day knowing I will probably not receive a thank you from anybody. I was really okay with not wanting a thank you. I knew that is not what I was in it for.
After a couple of weeks today I have found out why I want to be a counselor. I am in a sorority and we do this thing called Secret Sister. It is almost like Secret Santa but we do it throughout the semester. I have this girl but I haven;t been able to come up with anything good to give her that had any meaning. So something popped into my head. I will get her four items. They all had the colors that symbolize our sorority. Example: this color symbolizes unity I had gotten a you a necklace that is chain link showing how connected we are to each other. I was very proud of it but I wasn't expecting a thank you. I didn't care if she said thank you or not. I just wanted to see her reaction. I wanted to see her be happy. I wanted to see a smile. At that moment I wanted to cry. For weeks I have been wondering if I had been making a mistake and now out of the blue I had an answer. I was glad that my answer was something that made sense.
I know for some people reading this they will never understand. I understand though. I understand why I am heading in the direction I have chosen. I think I had lost track of it until someone more or less said to slow down and think.
So what I have learned to do with my personal growth is that I really need to slow down. I have many things I still need to learn but if I am rushing through life I will never think about what I want. I will just end up doing something I might not like to down the road.

"Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are" - Kurt Cobain

I do not believe it is a waste of a person you are. I think many people go through the fantasy life of becoming someone else for a day. I think that is what gives everybody there uniqueness. I mean if nobody wanted to be like anybody else then we would not have different types of people. How do you know you like a certain style of clothing, hairstyle, piercings, home decor if we did not have an example. We dress or decorate what we liked into our lifestyles and then decide if it is "US".
Being someone else is to find our own identity. I know when I was younger I wanted to be just like my sister. My sister was awesome. She helped my through a tough time in my life. She did not talk to me like a child. She was caring and I learned a lot from her. I saw what my sister was for deep inside and that is what I wanted to be when I got older. Someone to care for others and someone how could help them get through tough times. So no I am the person I am today because of wanting to be like someone else. I do not think I am a waste. I know I will do great things.

OnE tHiNg At A tImE!

This week has been so hectic. I am not sure anything is inspiring me this week. It has not been a good week at all. I think this class is causing me stress. I am not for sure if I am doing it the way it needs to be done or "up to standards". I need more direction then what I am getting.
How confused am I really? I have been very confused about this class. I am not sure what you want. You do have great ideas but I do not think this will be a good website if we do not spend time on our projects. I feel we are flying through them without thought. I feel if it is going to be mangled like how our class is going I would end up more confused then how we started off. We need to sit down and plan the project and then give it a class or two to revise it. I think the deadlines are to short. We need to go through one thing at a time.
